This project is a collaborative effort between Prochesta Bangladesh and the Nepal Disabled Human Rights Center (DHRC). Through this partnership, participants from both organizations will engage in an international exchange, learning from each other’s experiences and practices.

 
Goal: The goal of the project is to build the capacity of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and Children with Disabilities (CWDs) aims to improve living quality to enjoy their rights and entitlements; access to education, safety-net programs, and health and live with dignity. Through the project, Prochesta will improve their life skills to engage them into income generation and strengthen media advocacy programmes to sensitize duty bearers to facilitate PWDs in all aspects including social inclusion On the other hand, DHRC Nepal will incorporate Prochesta practice aim to promote IE (Inclusive Education), role of Self-help group on access to safety-net program, health, social inclusion, where PWDs are empowered, exercise their rights and entitlements.
 
Objective: The overall objective of the project is disability inclusion in both countries through international travel of Nepali staff along with working approach. Prochesta has been promoting disability-inclusive education and self-help group’s formation of PWDs to establish their rights in the inclusive society which intends to learn by the DHRC. Contrastingly, DHRC has been advocating for disability inclusion through media coverage and radio program that will learn by the Prochesta. Through mutual learning, both organizations will be augmented new approaches that will help to make a disability-inclusive society.

Objective-1: Promote Disability Inclusive Society and Self-help group strengthening, skills building on income generation, establishing their rights and IE for children through learning sharing, interaction, Child development through the extra-curricular activities, model school development etc.
Objective-2: Awareness and realization on disability Inclusive Society and Education through media advocacy and mutual learning sharing among, staffs, teachers and community people.

 
Key Activities:
DHRC will work with seven community schools in Gokarneshwor Municipality, focusing on empowering children with disabilities by forming inclusive student councils, providing leadership training, and facilitating quarterly council meetings. The project also includes training for teachers and advocacy meetings, involving educators from 11 community schools in Gokarneshwor Municipality. Media advocacy will be a key component, utilizing TV, radio programs, magazines, documentaries, and leaflets to amplify the message. Participants from DHRC and Prochesta will also provide training to each other’s organizations on inclusive education, disability rights, and social inclusion.

Expected Outcomes of the Project

Impact:
Strengthening disability inclusion in targeted areas of Bangladesh and Nepal, creating environments where Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and Children with Disabilities (CWDs) can fully exercise their rights and enjoy equitable access to education, social inclusion, and support systems.

Outcome 1Empowered Children with Disabilities (CWDs) in Schools of Gokarneshwor Municipality by Incorporating Prochesta Practices

  • Indicators:

    • 28% of CWDs in Gokarneshwor Municipality will actively participate in leadership activities by the first round, increasing to 32% by the second round.
    • CWDs will develop leadership skills and establish reading corners in their homes, improving their engagement in both school and personal development.
  • Key Outputs:

    1. Disability-inclusive student councils will be formed in 7 schools, with quarterly meetings held to empower CWDs.
    2. Leadership training for CWDs in these councils will be provided to at least two students per school.
    3. home-based reading corner campaign will be implemented, benefiting 20 CWDs in the first round and 30 CWDs in the second round, encouraging learning at home.

Outcome 2Consolidated Media Advocacy and Participation of School Stakeholders to Facilitate Government Support and Raise Awareness on Disability Issues

  • Indicators:

    • A variety of IEC materials (information, education, and communication materials) such as documentaries, radio programs, TV programs, magazine features, and leaflets will be developed and widely disseminated.
    • 7 broadcasts and 1 advocacy meeting will be conducted in the each round, continuing into the second round with 6 more broadcasts and 250 printed materials distributed.
  • Key Outputs:

    1. Disability-inclusive IEC materials will be created and distributed, including documentaries, radio programs, magazine features, TV programs, and leaflets.
    2. Advocacy meetings with government stakeholders and school representatives will take place to address CWD education-related issues.
    3. Teacher training on disability inclusion will be conducted in 11 schools to increase awareness and inclusion practices for CWDs.Outcome 3Improved Skills and Knowledge of DHRC Staff on Disability Inclusion Through Prochesta Practices
      • Indicators:

        • After participating in the project, 50% of DHRC staff will show improved knowledge scores on disability inclusion, with this figure rising to 75% by the second round.
      • Key Outputs:

        1. Training on disability inclusion provided by Prochesta participants will be held for DHRC staff, focusing on Prochesta’s proven practices and experiences.
        2. DHRC staff will receive training on the rights and entitlements of PWDs, equipping them to better advocate for these rights.
        3. Prochesta participants will facilitate training on inclusive education, helping DHRC staff apply knowledge gained from Bangladesh’s inclusive education context.
